Partnering to Strengthen Community
Providence Health & Services (Providence) and the YMCA of Snohomish County (YMCA) announced a collaborative effort to support the health and wellness needs of the community. Through this partnership, Providence plans to provide physical therapy services at the new Everett YMCA, a 60,000 square foot facility scheduled to open late 2019.Providence will have a 1,900 square foot clinic in the new Y to provide innovative programming to take care of community members and provide valuable outpatient wellness services. Providence looks to optimize the care of these patients by making it convenient to take advantage of the programs and services available at the YMCA to support their wellness journey, and expects to serve more than 500 patients annually.
“This is the first medical services collaboration at this level for our YMCA,” said Scott Washburn, President/CEO, YMCA of Snohomish County. “Both the YMCA and Providence have been in this community for more than 100 years. This partnership serves as an example of how the concept of community wellness can be enhanced through health care integration when two trusted organizations join forces.”This is not the first time the YMCA and Providence have joined forces. The Y works closely with Providence Institute for a Healthier Community to provide programs and services that promote individual and community health and well-being. Together, Providence and the YMCA are working to improve health care quality and increase access of care in the communities we serve.

Providence has long looked to provide outpatient physical therapy services for its patients and as a benefit to its patients and the community. The clinic will be staffed by a team of physical therapists and physical therapy aides – with equipment to support wellness and therapy within the clinic, and collaboratively with the YMCA using their pool and track resources. Services will be provided beginning early 2020.Partnering with the community is an important part of the new Everett YMCA project, and includes three other collaborations:
- The YMCA is donating the southernmost acre of property at the home of the new Everett YMCA to the city of Everett to use as a neighborhood park. This is the first and only park in the Glacier View neighborhood, making it a significant asset to the community in this park-deficit area. The city is working to open the park by the end of 2020, and is currently in the master plan process. The park will include a playground, an interpretive rain garden, and walking path.
- Also working with the city of Everett, the YMCA will provide a minimum of 74.5 hours of pool access per week for non-YMCA member Everett residents.In partnership with Everett Public Schools, special needs students will have dedicated use of the pool during certain times. In addition, a 25-yard competition pool with a timing system will be used for high school practices and home meets held by Everett and Cascade High Schools.
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Snohomish County (BBBS), an affiliate of the YMCA of Snohomish County, will have its regional offices integrated in the new Everett YMCA. This new mentoring center will increase the number of youth served annually to 300. This will provide a permanent home for the agency for the first time in its history, allowing the staff more time to focus on serving youth in our community.
More than $16.3M has been raised so far for the $34M Everett YMCA project.
