YMCA Family Member,

For 120 years, the YMCA of Snohomish County has faced our region’s greatest challenges. Your Y is the longest sustaining nonprofit organization in Snohomish County. Through good times and tough times, the Y has continued to provide essential services that build the foundation of community.

The Y is Here

Very few organizations, for profit or nonprofit, are able to be relevant, nimble, connected and valued for 120 years. When young men migrated to urban centers from family farms looking for work they relied on the Y for lodging and healthy activity; when women began entering the workforce they looked to the Y for night school training. As new immigrants have come to our communities, they turn to the Y for language education and job skills. When GIs got off their ships after WWII young soldiers stayed at the Y until their trips home were confirmed. With the baby boom, families turned to the YMCA for child care and family programs. Over the years, the Y has invented summer camp, swim lessons, basketball, night school, English Second language classes, the USO, Youth and Government and hundreds of other important elements of the American lifestyle – the Y is woven into the fabric of Snohomish County and our nation.

Today, your YMCA of Snohomish County is the largest provider of child care in the county. We serve hundreds of teens in meaningful after school programs, teach thousands of children critical water safety skills, bring people together whose paths may never otherwise cross and connect the elders of our community with healthy activities and wellness programs. The Y is the one place in the community where people of all ages, backgrounds and economic levels can come together for a common purpose – to build the foundation of community. You rely on the Y and the Y relies on you.

What We’re Doing Right Now

Emergency Child Care: Your Y is providing care for children of first responders, health care providers, and essential workers, allowing our local heroes to focus on their responsibilities knowing their children are receiving safe and enriching YMCA care. Through 11 child care sites across the county the YMCA is supporting over 400 families needing child care so they can support us.

Ensuring food security: Through partnerships with our county’s school districts we are providing food security with nutritious “Grab and Go” breakfasts and lunches for students and families across the county while schools remain closed.

Senior Outreach: YMCA staff are reaching out to our senior members with 1:1 check-ins and arranging for small group conversations using social media reducing isolation and depression.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring: As part of our 501C3 organization, we are proud of the work our BBBS affiliate continues to support. Bigs, adult mentors, continue to connect in creative ways with their Littles through the support of our thoughtful and professional staff.

Virtual Wellness: With the launch of our new Y at Home, virtual YMCA, complete with free, virtual group exercise classes, wellness tips, family activities, 1:1 wellness check-ins, and other resources, the Y is keeping everyone engaged. To date, we have over 1,600 Y members and community members participating in our virtual YMCA. We encourage you to join fellow youth, families, and seniors to stay healthy in spirit, mind, and body during this stressful time.

Our Commitment to You

In the meantime, know your Y is working hard in the community every day to support those who support us and to care for our neighbors. Stay connected and stay well.

Thank you for your consideration of support and I look forward to seeing you at the Y.
