My Y Story: Rosalinda
Walking to Success.
A walk to the grocery store changed Rosalinda’s life. In her first winter in America, Rosalinda found herself depressed, with a baby daughter, living on Casino Road. On her walk to the store she saw a sign at the Children’s Village promoting English language classes.
Soon after, Rosalinda became connected to the Casino Road Academy, a collaboration among the YMCA, Goodwill, and local community colleges. Within two years, she learned English, made a community of friends, and achieved her GED. After she walked across the stage to receive her diploma, her daughter Regina said, “I’m very proud of you, Mom.”
“I’m very grateful to the YMCA. My life changed when I started going to the classes. Now, I want to share this with the community. I want them to know that if I can, they can.”
