Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Inspirational Weekend
YMCA of Snohomish County will honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by hosting the 2nd Annual YMCA Martin Luther King, Jr. Inspirational Weekend on January 13-16, 2023.
Before civil rights champion and humanitarian Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led the Montgomery, Alabama, bus boycott in 1955, before he delivered his universally-acclaimed “I Have A Dream” speech at the 1963 March on Washington, and before he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Norway, in 1964, Martin King was a young child who found a second home at the YMCA. As a boy, he learned to swim at the Y in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. In celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day the YMCA of Snohomish County, together with community partners, friends and neighbors, will honor one of the most influential civil rights activists our world has ever known.
The weekend of activities begins with an Inspirational Breakfast on Friday, January 13, 7-9 am at the Everett Family YMCA. The YMCA is inviting community members of all faiths and backgrounds across our Snohomish County community to join together to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King who fought on behalf of the economically disadvantaged through peaceful protest and education – and how the Y continues his work.
On Monday, January 16, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, YMCAs throughout Snohomish County will host “Make It A Day ON Not A Day Off” community service projects honoring Dr. King’s servant leadership spirit. The Y will mobilize hundreds of volunteers who will give back through the YMCA MLK Day of Service projects identified and facilitated by Y staff, civic leaders and community volunteers.
