US… IS EMPOWERING
My Y Story: Andy
I first became aware of the Y when I registered my preschool boys for sports. Growing up in Guam, I had no previous experience with any organization like the Y. My kids began making friends, and hanging out with them outside of Y activities. We got to know more of our neighbors, and I also met Y staff, and learned about volunteering on the committee for youth sports.Volunteering turned out to be enjoyable and rewarding, which led to me volunteering on the Board of Directors for the past ten years.
Meanwhile, my kids’ experiences introduced us to other Y programs like camps and school-age child care. My younger son made a friend in child care, and they have remained friends past college. My older son loved camp so much he volunteered, and later worked for the YMCA resident camp at Lake Wenatchee. While there, he met his wife, and they are the parents of my grandkids.
When I took my kids to their first practice, I had no idea we were starting a lifelong involvement with the Y. We didn’t know how much our Y experience would make us feel more like members of our community, and I thank the Y for setting us on a good path.
When you donate to the Y, you make our communities better and the “us” who live in them stronger.
All kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve, under the guidance of caring adults who believe in their potential. We see every interaction with young people as an opportunity for learning and development—all grounded in the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and

The Y is now…as it has always been…a place of possibility and promise for all. Unfortunately, in times when the true power of “us” is unknown to many and our bonds are fraying, we must do even more to enhance our human connections. That’s why the Y passionately focuses on strengthening communities.
Every day, the Y supports kids, adults, seniors and families with programs that protect, teach, connect, heal, nourish and encourage. Everything we do helps empower communities and the “us” who live in them to thrive.
