Everett zoning change would allow for more community centers

Posted on: 11.25.2015

EVERETT — The city’s Planning Commission is looking over amending city zoning code to allow community centers to be added to the list of facilities, such as hospitals, churches and clinics, that can exist in residential areas using a special permit.
If approved, the door would be open to have facilities like YMCA centers located in residential zones as well as commercial ones.
A second item, a request to initiate consideration of an amendment to the zoning code to allow alternative uses in churches located in residential zones through the Special Property Use permit process, was unanimously approved for consideration by the commission at its Tuesday, Oct. 20 meeting.
