Group Lessons

Children are taught in small groups with others of their own age and skill level to facilitate the students' socialization skills. Instructors use a child-centered approach which offers more active involvement and a better understanding of swimming, thus more learning and more fun. Of course, YMCA Character Development is at the core of each lesson, as are the essential components of stroke development, boating safety, personal safety, and rescue skills.

Cost varies by session.

Please see our lesson schedule on the right for more information.

Pre-Competitive Swimming

This instructional and fitness based swim program develops health, swimming skills and overall fitness. Instruction consists of the fundamentals of competitive swimming, including stroke mechanics and turns. Students will increase endurance and strength in an enjoyable and confidence building environment.

Pre-Requisites: Participants must be able to front crawl for 50 yards and back crawl for 25 yards.

Cost varies by session.

Please see our lesson schedule on the right for more information.

Private Lessons

Private Lessons are taught on a one-on-one basis tailored to fit your individual needs or goals. Semi-Private Lessons can be used to teach multiple individuals of a similar skill level at the same time.

We do not guarantee that we can fill all private lesson requests. Requests may take 4-12 weeks to fill. Students who are unable to participate in group lessons due to special needs that make a group environment unsafe are given priority on the waitlist. SWIM LESSONS ARE CHANGING:
WHERE DID ALL THE FISH GO?

CHANGES TO Y SWIM LESSONS
As “America’s Swim Instructor,” the Y has been teaching kids how to be safe around water for decades. Beginning with our Spring II session, we’ll be making some changes to our swim lesson structure to simplify and more accurately describe skill levels.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT?
We’re making two key changes to swim lessons:

Name changes: Lesson names are changing to stages that better reflect the skills learned, and we’re moving away from the identifying fish levels. Visit your local Y for more information and a detailed guide on which stage is appropriate for your children. When registering for upcoming sessions, these changes will be reflected both on the website and if signing up at your local branch.

Curriculum changes: We’re also changing the curriculum to better serve different learning styles of our youth participants. We’ve simplified the structure by focusing on benchmark skills and goals in each stage. Students progress from fundamentals to stroke technique over six distinct stages. Swimming lessons are essential for kids to become safe around water, and learn to set and achieve goals. We’re looking forward to launching this new swim lesson structure and helping many more young people build swimming confidence.

For more information take a look at the Lesson Selector and Stage Descriptions or the Lesson Level to Stage Conversions to find what class your child should take. These can be found on the right hand side of the page.

SCOOTERS PROGRAM

Do you want to get in a workout while your child participates in swim lessons but 30 minutes is just not enough? We are now offering a free Scooter program that allows you to workout while your child plays and we’ll be sure to get them escorted to their swim lessons. More time for you, supervised fun and skills for them! Just follow these simple steps:

  • Check your child into Child Watch or Adventure Zone
  • Let the staff know your child has lessons and at what time
  • Our Aquatic Staff will get them and escort them to their lessons
  • Meet your child and pick them up at the pool at the end of their lessons

The Scooters program is only offered for lessons that occur Monday-Thursday in the afternoons and evenings. Children must be checked in at least 30 minutes before their lessons but no more than 90 minutes.

NOTE: All children must be fully potty trained in order to participate in this program. Children must have their swimsuit on under their clothes at check-in. Parents must remain in the facility at all times.
This program is only available for Facility Members and is FREE.
