Gary Way has been coming to the Y since 1998 and is now one of our most active volunteers. He began by taking water fitness classes and thought, “Hey, I ought to learn how to do this!” Before long he was teaching his own classes.
Volunteering has also given back to Gary. After having open heart surgery, he has seen a thirty four percent increase in his heart function since taking water classes and volunteering at the Y.
Besides the health benefits, working with others, and reaching out to people, Gary volunteers because, as he says, “It beats retirement!”
