Star, YDC Teen

Now I Feel Special

Star, a 9th grader at Mariner High School, is a regular MAP participant at the YMCA Casino Road Youth Development Center (CRYDC).

Star and her mother recently moved into a relative’s apartment, located more than 1.5 miles away from the CRYDC. This past spring, Star commented, “I wish I had a bike to get here every day.”

CRYDC Director Alex Costumbrado shared Star’s wish with YMCA partner Cintas, who provides a variety of products to our facilities. In June, Cintas staff surprised Star with a brand new bike, helmet, and a bike lock.

Star exclaimed, “Wow… This is so cool. Now...I have a bike! I’ve been wanting one of these. Thanks for doing this. I feel special.”

At the Y, we exist to strengthen community. Together with people like you, we nurture the potential of kids, help people understand and improve their health, and provide opportunities to give back and support our neighbors.
