Finding Peace at the "Muk"

Sky Siljeg is a regular skater at the “Muk,” his home skate park. “I was raised by an awesome single mom,” said Sky. “My dad had a drug addiction and was in and out of our home. I have not seen him since I was eight.”

“I started competing at the age of five. Through skating, I’ve made lots of friends, managed stress in a positive way, traveled all over the world, and learned business skills working with sponsors. I’m now ranked 4th in the world men’s pro.”

“Two years ago my mom was diagnosed with stage three melanoma cancer. She told me not to give up and she wouldn’t either. She chose to work out at the Y during her treatment. The YMCA is very important to my family.”

“Throughout my life, three things kept peace for me: Family, Faith in Christ, and Skateboarding.”

At the Y, we exist to strengthen community. Together with people like you, we nurture the potential of kids, help people understand and improve their health, and provide opportunities to give back and support our neighbors.
