Mike Gantala, Adaptive Programs Participant

Playing and Working in a Leauge All His Own

Mike Gantala is a guy who likes to have fun and do a lot of things, but he needs a lot of help sometimes. Mike has Cerebral Palsy and uses a wheelchair.

“Before the YMCA there was almost nothing for kids with special needs to do. But now we have the Miracle League and our own field to play baseball on. Without it, I would feel like I don’t have much of a life.”

The impact the Y has on Mike’s life extends past recreation—he is also a regular volunteer. “I always wanted to have a job, but it takes me more time to do things, so employers won’t hire me. But, the YMCA has made a place for me to work as a volunteer. I love my job and always do my very best. I thank the YMCA every day for the opportunities they have given me.”

At the Y, we exist to strengthen community. Together with people like you, we nurture the potential of kids, help people understand and improve their health, and provide opportunities to give back and support our neighbors.
