A Lifetime of Community Impact

Not many can tout a life-long affiliation with the Y, but Chris Hoiby has been part of the Y for 60 years. In his younger years, he came to the Y for swimming and teen dances, where he met his wife. He later worked as a lifeguard and served on a board to create a YMCA in Marysville.

With a passion for youth development, Chris created a thriving after-school program with the Y and local school districts. After more than 30 years working in public schools, he retired and began to work solely for the Y. For three years he has coordinated the Y Community program, which offers assistance to families in local transitional housing.

“I strongly believe in the Y Community mission and helping kids get a successful start in life. I like to think that I have helped many families see hope in the future.”

At the Y, we exist to strengthen community. Together with people like you, we nurture the potential of kids, help people understand and improve their health, and provide opportunities to give back and support our neighbors.
