Tate’s mom wasn’t sure what to do with him. As a single mom of three kids, she had a new job which required her to work a swing shift. She knew she needed a safe, supervised place for Tate after school.
After learning of the YMCA Casino Road Youth Development Center, she sent Tate, who was initially shy and reserved. He quickly discovered a way to connect with other kids: Guitar Hero. Tate is one of the best players around, and now enjoys challenging other kids to play. “I was surprised at the games and friends here. I enjoy hanging out with my friends and meeting new people. The staff and volunteers make sure you do your homework.”
When we asked Tate about college, he shared, “When I think of college, I think of a new opportunity. I’d like to go to college so I can support my family and friends.”
