Job Title:
Extended Care Camp Counselor
Monroe/Sky Valley YMCA
$12.11-14.39/hr DOE
Days & Hours:
6-9am / 3-6:30pm / 30-40 hours M-F June 25-Aug 31
Required Skills

Minimum age 18
• Previous experience working with youth ages 4-12, preferably in a camp setting
• Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc


Are you ready for an exciting summer utilizing your leadership and people skills?
YMCA Camp counselors are invaluable staff members who spend their entire day with a group of campers. They are role models who assist and motivate campers whether they are learning a new skill or they have a concern about an issue or idea. Throughout the day YMCA Camp Counselors monitor and participate in activities with their small group of 10-15 campers. As a YMCA Camp Counselor you will do everything in your power to make each of your campers’ summer the most memorable yet! YMCA Camp Counselors must be fun loving, patient and genuinely concerned for the welfare and development of young people.

Provide direct supervision of a group of children/youth (4-14 yrs old, ages vary by camp) in a seasonal day camp setting. Provide a fun, enriching, quality experience to children/youth and parents focused on relationship building through the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

• Provide safe, active supervision of a group of children/youth
• Plan and implement program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core values in order to meet the intended camper outcomes
• Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards
• Attend staff meetings and trainings
• Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior
• Provide active supervision for participants during all transition times and while campers are being transported to and from camp or during scheduled off-site field trips
• Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies
• Ability to observe and manage children/youth behavior utilizing positive discipline techniques, lead age-appropriate activities, and support an environment that is emotionally and physically safe
• Maintain positive relations with parents and other staff
• Completion of YMCA specific training/certifications as directed

Qualified applicants can attend one of our group interviews on Saturday, March 24th, 11am-2pm or Saturday, April 28th , 2-5pm, at the Monroe/Sky Valley Family YMCA (14033 Fryelands Boulevard, Monroe WA 98272).
